Matthew Fryzek, M.D.

Dr. Fryzek graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction.  He attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and received his M.D. degree in 1998.  His Internal Medicine residency training was from 1998 through 2001, also at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Dr. Fryzek  joined Bluffs Family Healthcare in 2001.  He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in August 2001 and recertified in 2011.  Dr. Fryzek is from Glenwood, Iowa.  He is a member of the American College of Physicians.  Dr. Fryzek was the medical director for Hospice with Heart from 2005 until 2016.  He also served as medical director at Grifols Biomat USA Plasma Center in Council Bluffs from 2009 until 2018.  Since 2003, Dr. Fryzek has been the medical director at On With Life in Glenwood, IA, a skilled nursing facility that specializes in long term care for brain injuries.  Dr. Fryzek provides adult outpatient medical care in the office as well as inpatient hospital care for his and Ms. Johnson’s patients.

Joseph Wanzek III, D.O.

Dr. Wanzek graduated from Creighton University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He attended medical school at Des Moines University and received his D.O. degree in 2003.  His family medicine training was from 2003 to 2006 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.  He was board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 2006.  Dr. Wanzek worked with a group practice in Toledo, Ohio from 2006-2008.  Looking to move closer to home, Dr. Wanzek joined Bluffs Family Healthcare in 2008.  Dr. Wanzek is originally from Urbandale, Iowa.  He is a member of the American Family of Physicians.  Dr. Wanzek also provides visits to nursing home patients and even home visits to patients when necessary.

Wendy Johnson, PA-C

Wendy Johnson, PA-C, graduated magna cum laude from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska in 1996 where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. Ms. Johnson then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center from 1996 through 1998 where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.  She began working in the field of family practice medicine at Bluffs Family Health Care in January of 1999.  She sees a variety of patients, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and her special interests include women’s health, hypertension and diabetes management, pediatrics, and orthopedics.  Ms. Johnson also holds the rank of Colonel as a member of the Iowa Army National Guard and served in Afghanistan from 2006 to 2007.  She is the first PA in the Iowa Army National Guard to achieve the rank of Colonel. In her position as the Deputy Commander of Clinical Services, she is a part of the State Surgeon’s Cell, which is responsible for the medical readiness for over 6,500 Soldiers in the State of Iowa. Ms. Johnson is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and her re-certification scored her in the top 2% nationally.  Ms. Johnson is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and the National Guard Association of the United States.

John Marshall, M.D., emeritus

Dr. Marshall graduated from Drake University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Graduate work followed at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Military service was completed from 1969 through 1971. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri in 1975 with honors. From 1975 through 1978 he did residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri. Dr. Marshall began private practice in Internal Medicine in Council Bluffs in 1978 and founded Bluffs Family Health Care in 1987. Dr. Marshall was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Honor Society. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1978.  Dr. Marshall retired January 1, 2016.
